Lyutsifer Safin: The thing that no one wants to admit is that most people want things to happen to them. It is not that our own path as queer people does not bring us feelings of joy, but that it has been firmly asserted that our choices as queer people are labelled unhappy because they defy heteronormativity. There are some interesting confrontations as lives begin to intertwine and guilt becomes part of the mix and a she said/she said scenario unfolds. For Bond, the ongoing narrative that links the films of the Craig era together have yet to offer a sense of resolution or triumph, adding a similarly queer element to his own journey.

Full of intrigue and twists galore, WE ALL HAVE OUR SECRETS kept me captivated until the early hours. For many queer people, loss, loneliness, and unhappiness looms over us merely because of who we are. Nonetheless, it is this very idea that allows so many queer Bond fans to appreciate, project, and infer queerness from a franchise that is often reduced to a celebration of bygone heterosexual machismo and misogyny. I was hooked right from the start, as Emily, a busy midwife, was coping with her shift and her love life until it all started to unravel. I have to say I did start to wonder at one point where it was going and how things would play out, but I needn’t have worried as it all comes together at the end, and what a perfect ending it is.Observation of characters’ convolutions while they interact with other characters and during their brief internal monologues as they measure their and others’ behaviour as well works well with authorial intervention. Wherever it appears and however it is used, the parallels between Bond and Dalida’s personal life offer a nuanced and complex look at societal constructions of happiness as they relate to queer experience. I've enjoyed Jane Corry's previous books, so appreciated the opportunity to read an advance copy of her latest, We All Have Our Secrets. Although if the film is frozen pre-pandemic, in 2019, when it was originally supposed to be released, this puts makes the character a couple of years younger]. I feel Jane has created her own genre, I really enjoy reading her books and look forward to reading more.

I would describe this as a drama rather than a thriller yet it still has a psychological aspect to it. Midwife Emily made an unforgivable mistake, a mistake and decides to visit her father in Devon, who is suffering from dementia in an effort to escape the stress of work. With Francoise I was doubting whether she was a gold digger or whether she was being truthful, but then other times she was so gentle and caring. I would like to thank both Netgalley and Penguin UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. There were unpredictable twists, but they were kind of meh, and after finishing I was like, “Is that It? That said, it is their ways of coping with isolation and tragedy that make them relatable and fosters an allegiance with queer audiences. Zorro, the dog also has a role to play in the jealous interaction between Emily and Francoise, providing subtle clues to the relationships in the house. Dalida joins the rank in a way that is entirely unique; recorded in 1968, “Dans la vie endormie” is a song with a legacy that has existed long before its inclusion in No Time To Die.

With a degree in Sexuality Studies, Läne’s work often explores the intersection of language and sexuality.

In her last novel, 'The Lies We Tell' and especially in 'I Looked Away', she managed to absorb me into the life of a particular character to such an extent that I read the words and felt everything they did. Even when his life and body are pushed to the absolute limits of survival, there is space for humour that allows him to persevere. The second problem - unusually for a Jane Corry novel - lies not with the characters but with the storyline.
