Humming Through My Fingers" in the multi-author collection Shining On: A Collection of Stories in Aid of the Teen Cancer Trust, Picadilly Press, 2006, ISBN 1-85340-893-X Just Sayin’ is published by #Merky B ooks, the imprint launched by the musician Stormzy and Penguin Random House with an aim to “own – and change – the mainstream”. Was that something you wanted to get behind? Sephy Hadley was one of the guests that night. Haunted by the idea that she didn't do enough to stop the death of her first love, Callum McGregor, Sephy will not sit quietly and wait for accusations to fall on her now. She has her children to protect. Cara Imega: A kind-hearted Cross who falls in love with Jude. She campaigns against discrimination towards Noughts. Although Jude wants to take her money, he eventually falls in love with her as well. He becomes so confused about his feelings that he follows through with his original plan. He beats her to death and steals all her money. Because I didn’t make it up, did I? It’s all true! I had to revisit past events, dig deep into memories… There’s certain things in my life where I thought, OK, well, I can just put that to one side, never have to revisit that again. But obviously I did for this book. I wrote the autobiography because I just really wanted to talk about the truth

Let me focus on the positive first, the book was gripping and I found myself wanting to read more but I still got bored at times. Sephy's character returned again for another book and I really enjoyed seeing her mature throughout the books. This edition portrays Sephy in her fifties and reading about her growing as a person throughout the series is lovely and give's me nostalgia to when I was reading Noughts and Crosses for the first time. The theme of racism and discrimination is still strong and emulates recent things that have been happening in our world, which was a nice detail. The Guardian ranked Noughts & Crosses #88 in its list of 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. [15] Awards and nominations [ edit ]I'm sad that the Noughts and Crosses stories have finally come to an end, because it is probably my favourite book series ever. I still stand by the first book being unbeatable, but the entire series has been incredible and told so well it was as though it was happening before me. Having said that, I really did not understand opening up a murder mystery surrounding her husband, Nathan's, death and leaving it semi-unsolved. It seems that Sonny did it, but given that Sephy died before they could have a proper talk, no real and concrete answer was given.

How are you with managing distractions such as social media when you write? I’m guessing, with your productivity, pretty good… Callum is able to visit an injured Sephy in the room where she is being held. Alone together, Callum reveals to her his unsuccessful attempt to catch up to her before she left for Chivers. Their love rekindles, and the two end up having sex. Afterwards, Sephy escapes into the woods, chased by Jude and another LM member. Callum finds her first and gives false directions to the others; he then gives Sephy instructions to escape. Sephy then tells Callum that she'd seen Andrew before in her house with Kamal, revealing that Andrew is a government informant. Informing the rest of the LM about Andrew, the remaining members agreed to split up and keep a low profile, not meeting up again until Callum's birthday. Girl Wonder's Winter Adventures (illustrated by Lis Toft), Orion Children's Books, 1992, ISBN 0-575-05383-6 Overall, if you loved the Noughts and Crosses series, like me, and you really want to read it, go for it; however, if you've just stubbled across it, I recommend all the books that came before it in the series far more than this. Crossfire could definitely go amiss if you're not as in love with the series as me and other fans. While Callie Rose is in hospital, Tobey gets a new job at the Dowds' restaurant. He meets Rebecca, Vanessa Dowd's daughter. Rebecca enjoys his company as he treats her like a person, unlike the other boys who are interested only in her family and money. Tobey eventually goes out with her but is conflicted between her and Callie Rose.Troy - the son of Sephy and Nathan, still a teenager when he is abducted. We see how he’s just as strong as his mother and sister, and a great character Sonny Devlin: A member of Sephy's band. Starts to go out with Sephy, but Sephy decides to end their relationship even though they have feelings for each other. He later murders Nathan due to jealousy. Peacemaker" in the multi-author collection Peacemaker and Other Stories (illustrated by Peter Richardson and David Hine), Heinemann Educational, 1999, ISBN 0-435-11600-2 The other inconsistent character of course is Eva, who feels like a plot convenience (the missed opportunity to link her to the Eva in Knife Edge still rankles); and I still can't get over Dan's rise to criminal kingpin when in book 4 he could barely recognise a setup when it hit him in the face 😂😂

The Nought and Crosses saga (which I think we can totally go there now with three generations of both) is one of those stories that has all of the above and more. The two are then surprised by the rest of the gang, and Jude and Callum point their guns at each other; Sephy takes advantage of the confusion to flee. The story ends with Callum and Jude shooting at each other. I felt as though I was left with so many unanswered questions and annoying loose ends. For example, does Callie actually love Tobey or is she just trying to fulfil her mum’s final wishes? What happened to that strange romantic chemistry between Troy and Libby? Is there really going to be no police consequences for anyone considering how many people were killed, kidnapped etc.? What did Callie mean when she said “He thought he’d won…I was going to prove him wrong? (An ominous statement which needs elaborating please.) How can you just suddenly drop the bomb that Sonny did kill Nathan and then…nothing? Why was there no sense of angst or urgency to these characters as they ambled along in feeble attempts to recover their family members? And why in earth were there so many out of place marriage proposals? I mean come on! And another groundbreaking children's novelist R.J Palacio, author of Wonder, shares her own childhood favourite in The Book I'd Never Lend. At the time of the series, slavery had been abolished for some time, but segregation, similar to the Jim Crow Laws, continues to operate to keep the Crosses (dark-skinned people) in control of the Noughts (lighter-skinned people). An international organisation, the Pangaean Economic Community, exists. Seeming to be similar to the United Nations in scope but similar to the European Union in powers, it is playing a role in forcing change by directives and boycotts. Britain is known as Albion, Africa is one country called Zafrika, and Scandinavia is too, known as Fenno-Scandia, the only Nought country left. What I do love most about Endgame is each character has their own story to tell that evenly winds in well with one another, it isn’t solely centred around one character and their journey. This gives you a variety of characters to love and urgently want to protect as you watch them go through their twisted path of life. Tobey's guilt over Rebecca's death leads him to believe he no longer deserves Callie Rose, estranging himself from her. Sephy and Nathan marry, and she's pregnant with a son, Troy, by Callie Rose's next birthday. During the party, Tobey and Callie Rose have a huge argument over his continued secrecy about his involvement in McAuley's death. He decides to end his and Callie Rose's relationship for good. But this did not meet my admittedly high expectations. The story focuses on Troy, Sephy's son and Callie-Rose's half-brother and Libby, Troy's much-loathed classmate who was bought up in poverty. However, when the two find themselves kidnapped they are forced to put aside their dislike for one another and work out what this may have to do with Callie-Rose (a high-flying lawyer) and Tobey (currently in line to be the first ever Nought Prime Minister).

Newcomers to Noughts and Crosses would be advised to start at the beginning as Endgame draws heavily on what has come before, not least the murder of gangster Dan Jeavons and the kidnapping of Troy and Libby. Attempting to provoke Jude, Sephy tells him that Kamal gave Callum the choice to save his life or to keep their baby and Callum chose their baby. Jude loses his temper and tries to shoot her, but his gun jams. Minerva, in an attempt to save Sephy and herself, runs towards the front door and screams for help. She fails and Jude shoots her in the shoulder.Persephone "Sephy" Hadley is a Cross and the daughter of a wealthy senior politician, Kamal Hadley, who later becomes Prime Minister. Callum McGregor is a Nought, and they used to play together when Jasmine Adeyebe-Hadley, Sephy's mother, employed Meggie McGregor, Callum's mother, as a nanny. Ever since Jasmine fired Meggie, however, Sephy and Callum's friendship has been secret, as such interracial friendships are frowned upon by society. Politics is important. You're never too young to understand that. Politics is power. Politics is life " Kamal Hadley: the main antagonist of Noughts & Crosses and a secondary antagonist in Knife Edge. A powerful, avaricious Cross Home Office Minister who will do anything to gain more power and influence. He is the father of Sephy and Minerva and the grandfather of Callie Rose, but disowns Sephy and Callie Rose. He divorces Jasmine after an unhappy marriage and remarries. A letter sent by Jasmine sent to the media ends his stint in power. Mainly: Thank God I lived long enough to finish it! And: Thank God that’s done! OK, to be serious about it, it’s been a hell of a journey, which I’m really grateful for because it’s been 20-odd years. But I really do feel with the end of Endgame that really is it. And anyone who’s read it will know why. If there are more books written in that series, they won’t be by me.
